Stains happen, but when you find a stain on an article of clothing made from a material such as satin, you might feel panic set in.

Although satin is a delicate fabric, there are cleaning options besides dry cleaning to remove permanent marker ink stains.



You will need: 

• Clean cloth 
• 1 tbsp. vinegar 
• 1 tbsp. milk 
• 1 tsp. borax 
• 1 tsp. lemon Juice 
• Small container or bucket 
• Sponge 
• Paper towels 
• Hairspray 
• Rubbing alcohol 
• Vinegar 
• Liquid dish detergent 

Step 1 Place a cloth underneath the satin fabric before tackling the permanent marker ink stain. This helps to keep the stain from running through the garment onto the surface it's lying on.

Step 2 Mix 1 tbsp. vinegar, 1 tbsp. milk, 1 tsp. borax and 1 tsp. lemon juice in a small container or bucket. Apply the mixture directly onto the ink stain and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3 Dampen a sponge with cold water and dab the stain until it is gone.

Alternative Methods

Step 4 Place one paper towel under the ink-stained fabric. Spray hairspray directly onto the ink stain. Place another paper towel on top of the ink stain and gently blot. This forces the stain through to the other paper towel. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.

Step 5 Pour rubbing alcohol on the ink stain until it's saturated. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Use a sponge, dampened with cool water, to lift the stain from the satin fabric.

Step 6 Pour vinegar on the ink stain and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Apply a drop of dish detergent to the stain and gently rub with your fingers. Rinse with cold water.

TIP: When caring for satin, it is important to tend to any stain as soon as possible by blotting the stain with a dry cloth or napkin.

WARNING: Do not try to vigorously rub a stain out of satin. Rubbing satin breaks the fibers, causing a change in the sheen of the satin.
